Basic
directions from Boise
First, pack your bags for the road to fun at Twin Springs!! The drive takes about an hour and a half at the most, though an hour is possible if the road is clear and traffic is light.
Begin by taking off from
Boise, heading out towards Idaho City on Highway 21.
Travel up and over Hill
Top Cafe, maybe even stop in and grab a beverage for the drive up.
Once you get to the
More’s Creek Bridge, slow down! You’ll be turning right at the end of the
bridge. This will take you on the road
to Spring Shores Marina.
Keep going along the road
past the Marina, along the paved road towards Arrowrock Dam.
Once the pavement ends,
keep on moving up the road, alongside the dam and east towards the reservoir.
The
road at this point is a maintained dirt road, but occasionally rocks slide down
from rain and weather, so watch for unmarked hazards in the road, including deer
and other vehicles! Please
use your headlights at all times for safety!
You will continue along
the reservoir into a big bend with a road sign for Cottonwood Ranger
Station. At this point in the bend, the
road splits left and right, stay on the main road to the right side along the
reservoir. The
road to the left is scenic but a dead end
!!
This road will continue
for another 12 miles as it passes the end of the reservoir and joins up with
the Middle Fork of the Boise River. It
follows the river for a scenic drive with lots of fishing holes along the way!
At one point you will
pass the bridge to Slide Gulch/Prairie on the right. Stay on the main
road along the river. Notice the clearing on the right just past the bridge.
This is the location of the former Last
Chance Grocery
.
From the bridge, it is
only 4 miles to go!! When you get to
Twin Springs, stop in at George’s Tavern and say hello, we’ll be waiting for
you with a cold one ready!
